The newly topped King Arthur is not sure of himself; worse, the folk are not sure of him. Too many of us wish the throne, and treachery is in all places. Merlin needs to do anything prior to the king is betrayed, or murdered, or—worst of all—gets married. So Merlin magically areas a sword right into a slab of rock, we could it's identified that whosoever gets rid of the blade will rule all of britain, and invitations any guy who could dare, to aim to drag out the sword.
After just a little showmanship, Arthur will draw the blade (with a bit magical support, of course), and the folks will rally round the younger king.
Except another individual pulls the sword out first. . . .
